BACS Board Resumes

Gregory Lookabaugh: President— joined the Bay Area Charter School Board of Directors in September 2008. Education: Associate of Applied Science and BS, Industrial Technology from Lamar University. Work Experience: Mr. Lookabaugh has worked over 30 years as a facility director for various school districts in the State of Texas and other states with experience in the internal facility maintenance and operations, planning and design of future multimillion-dollar expansion projects, supervision and management of administrative, fiscal, and facility functions. He currently works as a senior consultant and the founder of Education & Environmental Maintenance & Operations Consulting (EEMOCO). Other Experience: Mr. Lookabaugh has been symposium speaker for the United States Environmental Protection Agency as well a peer reviewer United States Department of Education and the National Forum on Educational Statistics.

Dr. Glenn Young: Vice-President joined the Bay Area Charter School Board of Directors in 2008. Education: BS with Minor in Sociology and Minor in Communication from the University of Southwestern Louisiana (currently University of Louisiana at Lafayette) ; Masters of Religious Education with a concentration on International Missions from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary; Doctorate of Ministry with a concentration in Theology from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Work Experience: Dr. Young is currently Senior Pastor of Clear Lake Baptist Church. He has previously served as Senior Pastor of First Baptist Church of Youngsville and First Baptist Church of Devine, TX. He has also served on the ministry staffs of First Baptist Church of Lafayette, North Side Baptist Church and First Baptist Church of Devine. Other Experience: Dr. Young has worked extensively in community development and poverty relief both domestically and internationally. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for C.O.S.E.C.H.A. Ministries, which works with indigenous people groups in rural Southern Mexico and as a Board Member of Interfaith Caring Ministries, a poverty relief organization in the Clear Lake Area.

Carrie Gilder: Treasurer - joined the Bay Area Charter School Board of Directors in August 2002; served as President from October 2002 through September 2008 and Treasurer since September 2008; Education: BA, English, from Baylor University; MA, Humanities, and MBA from University of Houston - Clear Lake. Work Experience: Ms. Gilder has worked as a NASA contractor for more than twenty years, with experience in management, business analysis, training, data services, configuration management and technical writing. She also spent one school year teaching English language in Thailand during a teacher exchange program with Baylor University. Ms. Gilder is currently working at Lockheed Martin as Section Manager, Technical Data Services, where she also serves as a “greenbelt” internal process improvement consultant. Other Experience: Ms. Gilder is active in a local church, serving in various capacities over the years, including adult teacher and director, and children’s music teacher. She also currently serves on the Board of Directors for Clean Tile and More, Inc., a local floor restoration services company.

Mavis Irvan: Secretary — joined the Board in September 2006. She is a retired educator and taught elementary school for twenty-five years before she became a principal in Houston Independent School District where she served for fourteen years. Now retired, Mrs. Irvan continues her dedication to the student’s of Texas by serving on our Board.

Dr. Glenda Johnson Education: BS, Business Education, from Prairie View A&M University; MPA, Finance and Personnel, from Texas Southern University; MA, Political Science, from University of Houston, and EdD, Higher Education Administration, from Texas Southern University. Work Experience: Dr. Johnson has worked as a NASA civil servant for more than thirty years, with experience in, budget analysis, grant management, configuration management, contract officer technical representation, program analysis, and program specialist. She spent several years and an adjunct professor and Interpersonal Personnel Agreement Recipient in the Department of Public Administration at Texas Southern. Dr. Johnson has also taught public school. Dr. Johnson is currently working at NASA as the Informal Education Point of Contact in the Integrated Projects Office, where she also serves as a program specialist supporting protocol, education outreach, and community relations. Experience: Dr. Johnson is a missionary and evangelist in a Houston area ministry working with inner-city at-risk families, serving as the Director of the Missionary Department for several years, including adult and youth teacher. She also currently serves as Vice President of National Women of Achievement-Houston Metropolitan Chapter and President of the Board of Directors for the Vista Corporation-a non-profit community development organization. She is also a member of the National Management Association. Other Experience: Dr. Glenda Johnson has served as President of Economic Development for a local city and has worked on the U.S. Congressional Budget Committee and received numerous awards for her community service.
