| Bay Area Charter Schools are student-centered open
enrollment public schools emphasizing hands-on, project-based learning. Our mission: Bay Area Charter Schools foster the excitement of learning through an interactive educational environment that values the gifts and talents of every child while encouraging cooperation among students, parents, and the school community. Personalized Learning: We recognize that students learn differently. Our schools emphasize a project-based, cooperative approach that enables students to apply their learning to the real world. We offer small classes with low student/teacher ratios and encourage parent involvement. How do I enroll my student? Provide copies of his or her birth certificate, social security card, up-to-date immunization record, and proof of residency. Students from the Houston/Galveston Bay Area are accepted on a space-available basis. If more students apply than can be accommodated, a lottery is used to select students for available openings. Bay Area Charter Schools do not discriminate on the basis of sex, national origin, ethnicity, religion, disability, academic, athletic, or artistic ability, or the district the student would otherwise attend. Public Schools: Bay Area Charter Schools are public schools funded by state tax dollars. No tuition is required to attend K-12th grade. The district is independent of other local districts. Teachers are state-certified and TAKS test are given as required by the Texas Education Agency. Bay Area Charter Elementary School: Child-Centered - influenced by the internationally-acclaimed Reggio Emilia approach to education, the Elementary curriculum is based on the interests of the children as they learn principles of science, math, and language through projects. Projects stimulate the child's natural curiosity and interest while promoting critical thinking, investigation, problem solving confidence, creative expression, math, and language development. Enrollment: Kindergarten through 5th grade students attend tuition-free. Pre-K is offered free of charge for 3 and 4 year olds who qualify under the federal income and English proficiency guidelines and on a tuition basis for those who do not qualify. Bay Area Charter Middle School: - Bay Area Charter Middle School begins with a maximum of 90 students serving grades 5 through 8. Small class sizes and an individualized learning environment provide a family-style atmosphere where each student receives the attention he or she needs. Our hands-on, project-based curriculum emphasizes attaining Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills and creates an environment that inspires confidence and fosters success. Ed White Memorial High School: Individualized learning - The educational opportunities at Ed White Memorial High School are designed to address the needs of the individual student. Our goal is to offer the student an individualized curriculum that is challenging while using stimulating resources. By respecting the variety of learning styles our young people bring to the classroom, the teaching staff encourages students to engage in learning effectively. Computer Technology: Every classroom has computers with supervised access to the Internet with a school-wide computer/student ratio of 1 to 8. The use of Internet research is integrated into classroom instruction as appropriate. On-line Learning: Students may earn additional credits or recover lost credits through the use of PLATO and OdysseyWare on-line learning software. Use of PLATO or OdysseyWare is free of charge. |
